sayulita
Map for the weekend affairs
by our talented and beautiful friend, Jordan Maurer

We are absolutely in love with Sayulita - it was our first trip together, and by now we’ve been 5+ times now. We can’t get enough!
For newbies, Sayulita is the unofficial surfing capital of Riviera Nayarit and a small bohemian enclave of 5,000 with cobblestone streets.
Sayulita is a “pueblo magico,” a government designation meaning “magic town” that is awarded to destinations for “their astonishing beauty, rich history, or extraordinary legends.”
<— this pic is from our first trip to Sayu ever in 2023!!
“Mollie/Mikey, do you have any recommendations while we’re in town?”
Oh boy - do we!!!!
Check out this long-built Google Maps List of our favorite places in Sayulita - food, drink, ATM locations, hidden gems, surf rentals, instant classics, etc etc
*we recommend saving this list to your Google Maps so it can be referenced even if cell service is spotty
How to get there
Flying to Sayulita
The nearest airport to Sayulita is Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR) in Puerto Vallarta. This airport serves international and domestic flights from major cities in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Getting to Sayulita from Puerto Vallarta Airport
Once you land in Puerto Vallarta, Sayulita is about a 45-minute to 1-hour drive north along Highway 200.
Here are your transportation options:
Private Transfer (easiest for groups & most Comfortable)
Cost: ~$90-$150 USD per vehicle (one-way)
Details: Many shuttle companies offer private SUVs or vans with bilingual drivers. Some include a stop for groceries along the way.
Book in advance: Check companies like Sayulita Life Transfers, Puerto Vallarta Airport Transfers, or Sayulita Suburban.
Taxi (Most affordable, easiest for small groups)
Cost: ~$50-$80 USD one-way ($900 pesos)
Details: Airport taxis are available outside the terminal. Rates are higher at the airport, so walking across the pedestrian bridge to grab a taxi on the street can save money.
To get to those cheaper taxis, walk out of the airport doors and turn left and turn left around the corner of the building and you’ll see the pedestrian bridge! Walk over the bridge and there are taxis lined up there that can take you to Sayu. We do this every time!
Uber
Cost: ~$40-$60 USD one-way
Details: Uber is available but cannot officially pick up passengers inside PVR. To use Uber, exit the terminal and walk across the pedestrian bridge to request a ride.
Getting back to the airport on Sunday - normally Mikey and I schedule an uber in advance or grab a cab at the central town plaza, but if you’re with a big group or anxious about flight timing, then I’d schedule a private transfer pick-up for you!
Once in Sayulita, you can easily explore on foot or rent a golf cart. The roads are a mix of cobblestone, paved, and dirt, so if you have mobility limitations, you can also take taxis for short distances.
Where to stay
-
Airbnb
Whenever we visit Sayulita, we stay in an Airbnb!
There are loads of great Airbnbs perfect for groups of all sizes! There are private residences and also other smaller hotels where you can rent private Casitas out.
We’ve included some recommendations below, but definitely check back and explore other options!
-
La Puesta
While Sayulita doesn’t have big classic “resorts” (one of the reasons why we love it!) - La Puesta is as close as you can get if that’s your vibe!
It’s a super new build right on the water, and has a pool bar and even a water slide! One thing to note, it’s a little further from town on the North Side, so I’d recommend getting a golf cart if you plan on leaving the pool lounge chairs (but why would you?).
It’s also 2 doors down from Villa Del Oso, where our wedding & reception will be, so makes for a very easy walk home on the beach that night!
-
Hotel Ysuri
Lovely hotel option right next to the action in town (~5 min walk to town).
While we do not have a formal block, Hotel Ysuri is a great hotel and we highly recommend it.
